We the educators were amazed at the interest, involvement and commitment the toddlers showed us with this cooking project.
It was a joy to watch Beckett’s curiosity and interest to participate in our first adventure with cooking in the Toddler Room. He wanted to be involved in every step of the process. Since he loves water, we made sure it was his job to pour a cup of water over the apples before we cooked them. When he took a bite of an apple he helped peel, he said, “Mmmmmmmm!”
Chloe was very interested in every aspect of making applesauce. She helped Morah Chanie peel so man of the apples and when she saw the measuring spoon on the table, she picked it up and tried scooping different things up with it. When she decided she wanted to try one of the fresh apples, she picked one up, and looked at Morah Carolyn who encouraged her to taste it. One bite brought a smile to her face.
Piper was very interested in the process of preparing applesauce to share with the school. She helped Morah Chanie peel the apples, then was very focused on to try slicing the apples. When it was time, she added the flavors and poured sugar and cinnamon on the apples.
When Tzvi Elimelich saw a big basket of apples and all of things on the table to make applesauce, he immediately crawled over to investigate. He reached into the basket and pulled out an apple which he explored with touch and taste. When his friends began preparing the applesauce, he stood close by and observed everything that was happening at the table. He watched, intrigued by the whole process. He was truly a part of this experience experiencing and absorbing every moment!
