Jerusalem Week
Our school Western Wall stands so proudly in our hallway and we decided to explore the meaning of the wall and its history.
The children were invited to observe the Kotel. Avi exclaimed, “It looks the same,” and Rowan added, “But ours doesn’t have notes inside.” Zach noticed the pictures on the Kotel: “Here’s a picture of the wall." Daniel shared that he was born in Israel, and Avi shared that she has visited there before. Daniel told his classmates, “Hashem made the Western Wall the most special place in Israel.” |
In the Toddler Room, the children were very interested in the pictures of the Kotel on the computer. Meir noticed that there were many people praying at the wall. He excitedly pointed and said “People!” After he noticed the blocks on the table, we invited him to build his own wall. He placed blocks on top of each other and said, “Wall!” many times as he built.
The K3 kids decided to build the Kotel out of bricks. They talked to each other and discussed how they need to do it: Kaleb started to stack up the bricks and Sam thought it would be a great idea to put blocks behind the wall to keep it from falling. Naomi, Menucha and Adele added birds, nests, and roots. Naomi had a great suggestion, “Let's put green bricks between the brown ones so it looks like roots and plants.” Menucha suggested that they can create the nests too, “Morah Rachel! Let’s do origami birds like you made us in the past by herself. Then Eytan, Kaleb and Mushka came and we started to write our own prayers for Hashem and put it between the bricks.
We also made a yummy Israeli treat: Limonana!
