Discovering and Caring for our Environment
Garden Club is off to a great start! We gathered the gardeners and asked them what they thought the plant in front of them was. Shiffie said, “A plant is a tree or a flower.” Sam chimed in by saying, “…..or food!”. When the children were asked if they thought this plant was going to be a flower or a plant you can eat, Sam leaned close to the plant and inhaled. “It’s mint! It smells like mint!” Everyone was invited to taste and Shiffie thought it was, “Yummy.” |
Next, we asked what our plant and garden will need in order to grow. Shiffie thought about it and said, “If a plant is that big, we need that big of a pot.” “Dirt helps it not die,” said Sam. As we were adding soil, Shiffie told us, “Dirt is grayish and soil is darker.” Judah and Marley chose to use the trowel to add dirt to our pot and Judah asked, “Can I mix?” Together, everyone added soil and mixed it in the pot, feeling the texture of the soil by lightly holding it in their hands. |
