The vision of MJP Alumni staying connected to our school and each other and giving back was realized in June 2012. MJP alumni and their families gathered together to create a rain barrel as a testament to the commitment of each child in the graduating class of 2011. Graduate of 2011, Benji began the experience by showing the class the rain barrel and explaining how it would work. The children then shared how they envisioned decorating the barrel. Olivia suggested that the children create drawings of themselves on the barrel. Shemi added that they need to put each of their names on the barrel. Levi shared that he felt that they should illustrate their favorite things. Savan thought that they should draw animals on the barrel. Benji expressed a desire to create water park illustrations. Benji then led the children as they voted for two things to put on the barrel. The final votes: a drawing of themselves and their name. They got to work painting and soon the barrel was complete. We will spray it with protective coat and get it ready to use in our MJP garden this summer.
It was heartwarming to see that the deep connections that the children and educators formed during their preschool years at MJP still remain strong. From the first moment of this get-together, the children from last year’s K4 instantly connected and it seemed as if they had never left MJP!
